BGQ performs in Brazil and Ireland

2013 September 2 by

Just after wrapping up the new album featuring Spanish music, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet gets ready for two important performances in the next couple of months. The first one will be in September at the 47o. Festival Música Nova “Gilberto Mendes”, which proposes dialogues between the music of today and the revolutionary music of the past. The festival will be held in Ribeirão Preto, hometown of quartet member Gustavo Costa.

In October, the BGQ travels to Ireland for a special performance at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, which will include music by Villa-Lobos as well as by Granados, Albéniz and de Falla. This concert will be the first appearance under the auspices of the quartet’s new European management, Lundström Arts Management.

Celebrating the Summer festivals in North America, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet makes in July its first tour under the auspices of Shupp Artists Management. The tour includes a returning engagement at the Colorado Music Festival, where the BGQ performed a sold-out concert in 2009, and a Canadian appearance at Ottawa’s Music & Beyond Festival. There, the quartet will perform three different programs, featuring music by Bach, Brazilian classical composers – including music by Villa-Lobos from the 2011 Latin Grammy winner CD – and the Spanish repertoire from the soon-to-be released new BGQ album.

New CD to be recorded in May

In 2013 the Brazilian Guitar Quartet will celebrate its 15th birthday. 2013 also marks the 40th anniversary of Delos Productions, the American label through which the BGQ has released its five internationally acclaimed CDs. To celebrate these two important events, the ensemble is preparing a new album which will be recorded this May, with music by Spanish masters such as Enrique Granados, Isaac Albéniz, Manuel de Falla and Joaquin Rodrigo.

In an attempt to repeat the success achieved with its last CD, which features works by Villa-Lobos and won the 2011 Latin Grammy for best classical album, the BGQ will return to Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, in Saratoga Springs, NY, to record with the experienced audio engineer Dan Czernecki. The hall is part of The Arthur Zankel Music Center, a cultural and educational building founded in 2010 at Skidmore College. This outstanding hall is considered by the BGQ to have the perfect acoustic for the quartet’s recordings.

The Brazilian Guitar Quartet’s new CD will be released in the last quarter of 2013.
