This time the appearances will concentrate mostly on the east coast, including the states of Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and Maine, besides Arizona and Iowa. The tour programs alternate between music by Heitor Villa-Lobos (from the group’s 2011 Latin Grammy winner CD) and Spanish composers such as Granados, Albéniz, de Falla and Rodrigo. Just after wrapping up the new album featuring Spanish music, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet gets ready for two important performances in the next couple of months. The first one will be in September at the 47o. Festival Música Nova “Gilberto Mendes”, which proposes dialogues between the music of today and the revolutionary music of the past. The festival will be held in Ribeirão Preto, hometown of quartet member Gustavo Costa.
In October, the BGQ travels to Ireland for a special performance at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, which will include music by Villa-Lobos as well as by Granados, Albéniz and de Falla. This concert will be the first appearance under the auspices of the quartet’s new European management, Lundström Arts Management.

The BGQ’s next appointments include two concerts in Brazil. On June 30th, the quartet will be at CPFL Cultura, in Campinas (São Paulo state), for a rare performance of Isaac Albéniz’s Suite Iberia. This is an opportunity to hear in its full one of the most important works of the Spanish repertoire for piano, majestically arranged for guitar quartet.
On July 21, the quartet will play in the most traditional classical music festival in Brazil, the Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival. Besides Albéniz, the program will feature music by Villa-Lobos, from the quartet’s last CD which won the Latin Grammy in 2011 in the “best classical album” category.
